Internships

In this role, the intern will receive a practical introduction to nonprofit finance and administration. They will gain valuable skills while contributing to a mission-driven organization. By assisting with tasks like financial tracking, expense management, and data entry, interns will help our nonprofit maintain transparency and accountability. They also will support office operations, such as organizing records and coordinating communications, all of which contribute to our ability to deliver uninterrupted services.

This role offers interns the opportunity to learn all aspects of our agency and working in a nonprofit. The All-Around intern will gain knowledge and experience in areas and programs at Family Support Center including but not limited to: Family Room, Family Resource Services, Family Justice Center, Housing First, Coordinated Entry, and Development. By working with all of our programs, the intern will receive practical experience in social work services and exposure to nonprofit operations.

In this role, the intern will gain hands-on experience in providing direct client services through case management for families and/or survivors currently facing housing instability, many of who have experienced trauma, violence, or significant life challenges. As an agency, we utilize a housing first model to support households in accessing permanent housing as soon as possible. The Case Management intern is expected to follow this approach and support households with a trauma-informed and harm-reduction lens.

This role provides an opportunity to support families, survivors, and individuals experiencing homelessness by assisting with intakes, outreach, and data entry. Interns will gain firsthand experience in frontline social services. Coordinated Entry interns will participate in outreach efforts, ensuring that individuals who may be marginalized, hidden, or hard-to-reach are connected to the support they require. Through these services, interns will play a role in bridging gaps in homeless services and fostering pathways to housing and long-term stability.

In this role, the intern will develop skills in fundraising, communications, and strategic planning while contributing to a cause that transforms the lives of families and survivors. By assisting with nonprofit development, interns will assist in strengthening relationships with supporters and secure donations/funding to serve families and survivors. The development intern will also contribute to social media campaigns, storytelling, and stakeholder management, amplifying the center’s impact and raising awareness about its services.

This role offers a unique opportunity to gain experience in social work, survivor advocacy, and collaborative work while directly contributing to the empowerment and healing of survivors of domestic violence, human trafficking, and stalking. The Family Justice Center intern will assist with critical services like advocacy, resource navigation, safety planning, and more. By collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, interns also deepen their understanding of the systemic barriers survivors face and how to address them with compassion.

This program works with families to mitigate current crises in their life, which often includes preventing evictions, keeping essential utilities turned on, connecting their children to enrichment programs or school support programs, and working with families to increase their overall economic and housing stability. In this role, the intern will work closely with our Family Resource Navigators to support these households. 

Pear Blossom Place (PBP) is Thurston County’s only 24/7 shelter for families experiencing homelessness, and provides 30+ parents and children safety, stability, and warmth every night of the year. PBP operates from a low barrier and harm reduction model, working from a strengths based perspective while supporting families in accessing permanent housing. These interns will support families in achieving their goals, coordinate regular shelter activities or workshops, help ensure shelter spaces are safe and clean, mitigate conflicts and challenges between guests, and answer the 24-hour Coordinated Entry Line for shelter and housing resources.
